Porsche's 2025 Taycan breaks records as the brand's fastest-production model

It’s been almost five years since Porsche introduced its first-ever all-electric vehicle - the Taycan. This marked a major milestone for the brand which had exclusively produced petrol-powered cars for 88 years prior. While ditching the traditional engine for a battery and electric motors, the Taycan stayed true to Porsche's design heritage and delivered the same exhilarating driving dynamics customers had come to expect.

Now, for the 2025 model year, Porsche is further emphasizing these qualities in the latest iteration of the Taycan. Despite swapping out the standard engine, the Taycan kept Porsche's signature look on spirited performance that represents the company's soul. As the brand moves into a new era, it still remains committed to developing EVs that match and carry on its revered driving characteristics from decades of sports car leadership. The 2025 Taycan aims to take these aspects to an even higher level as Porsche doubles down on the key traits that made it an auto industry pioneer.

The 2025 Porsche Taycan lineup is being offered in eight different trim levels to benefit from several enhancements. The range includes the base Taycan, Taycan S, Taycan Turbo, and top-of-the-line Taycan Turbo S. It also features Cross Turismo variants of the Taycan 4, Taycan 4S, Taycan Turbo, and flagship Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo models. All 2025 Taycan models boast faster charging, increased range, more power, and quicker acceleration. Additional standard features across the board include Lane Change Assist, a heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, mirror surround lighting, intelligent range management, a new cooling system, wireless phone charging, and adaptive air suspension with available active ride control on AWD variants.

Exterior styling sees new front and rear end designs with updated LED HD headlights and taillights. Interior revisions implement an improved control and display layout. The packages are designed to further elevate the driving experience through enhanced performance, convenience, and technology integrated seamlessly within Porsche's memorable design language. Every trim offers quicker acceleration than its predecessor, with the base model now hitting 60 mph in a blistering 4.5 seconds - 0.6 seconds faster. The range-topping Turbo S needs just 2.3 seconds, making it Porsche's fastest-accelerating production car.

What’s more, the Turbo S' multi-motor setup is noticeably more potent. An added rear motor provides up to 80kW more power across all models. A new push-to-pass function activates up to 10 seconds at a time for a burst of 70kW (94 hp) under the Sport Chrono package. The battery can charge at up to 320 kW via 800V infrastructure, 50 kW quicker than before. Lighter yet more powerful, it reaches 80% in 18 minutes despite holding more energy. The entire powertrain benefits from a modified pulse inverter and optimized software/thermal management. A next-gen heat pump and revised AWD and recuperation strategy also increase performance.

Porsche's engineering has elevated every aspect of the 2025 Taycan's thrilling performance. With class-leading power, quicker charging, and better acceleration, it establishes a new benchmark for electric vehicles. Here are just a few key aspects of the acceleration and the charging speed!

Acceleration:

  • The Taycan Turbo S can go from 0-60 mph in just 2.3 seconds, making it one of the quickest production EVs. Only the Tesla Model S Plaid is faster at 1.99 seconds.

  • Most other high-performance EVs have 0-60 times in the mid-2 second range.

  • Mass market EVs like the Kia EV6, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Hyundai Ioniq 5 range from 3-5 seconds.

Charging speed:

  • The Taycan can charge at up to 320 kW on an 800V fast charger, which is about average for a high-end EV.

  • The Porsche is quicker than Lucid Air/Tesla but slower than newer 800V cars like the Hyundai Ioniq 5/Kia EV6.

  • Most mass-market EVs only charge at 150 kW max today, though this will increase over time as networks upgrade.

In summary, while not the absolute leader, the Taycan remains competitive with the quickest accelerating and fastest charging EVs on the market today from Tesla, Lucid, Rivian, etc. Its performance places it at the forefront of exciting luxury/sports electric vehicles.
