The biggest downfall of an artist: Kanye West and the brands cutting ties

Kanye West has been fuelling up hundreds of headlines all around the world during the last few weeks. But it's not for good reasons, on the contrary - for all the bad causes. And it all happened after the huge backlash he obtained following his statement T-shirt inscribed with “White Lives Matter” at the Season 9 show for Paris Fashion Week. The celebrity thrashed several people for opposing his ideas. Then, he went on and maintained his position by making some anti-Semitic statements and invectives. All this has caused the creation of a self-destructive course for the rapper. Because right after showing this offensive attitude and behavior, more than one brand - actually several brands have chosen to cut relations with the artist and with his personal label. If you don't know what brands we're talking about, here are just 9 of them so continue reading to find out the list that decided to end the collaboration with the famous Kanye West.

  1. Balenciaga

Probably one of the best-known brands in the world, Balenciaga officially cut ties with Kanye West on October 21. This event has led to the end of the rapper being the Creative Director of Demna. As representatives from Balenciaga have stated, the label doesn't want to partner up with Kanye in the future for any other projects from now on.

  1. Adidas

After Kanye’s video where he declared that he is allowed to be anti-Semitic and Adidas will not drop him, many brands - including the Anti-Defamation League - compelled the label Adidas to actually slash the connections with Kanye. And of course, Adidas listened to the voices and they did, releasing a statement declaring that their brand does not tolerate anti-Semitism and other hate speech. Moreover, they said that Kanye's recent statements and activities have been inappropriate, hostile, and even risky. All in all, it was made clear and public that what Ye said violates the company's values - we're talking about inclusion and diversity. In conclusion, Adidas decided to terminate the partnership with the rapper effective immediately. They also stopped the production of Yeezy imprinted items and ended all earnings to Ye and his companies. This decision had a huge influence on Kanye’s capital. It is said that he officially lost his billionaire status, dropping his net worth to £345 million.

 

  1. Gap

Just a few hours after the aforementioned brand - Adidas - stopped all collaborations with Kanye, it was Gap's turn to announce that they would also remove all the products made in partnership with the rapper from their stores and the website. Their explanation included a statement about antisemitism, racism, and hate that is not to be tolerated by the brand as they are not part of their values. Moreover, they will be partnering with organizations and institutions that fight hate and discrimination, to demonstrate to their fans that they want to act for marginalized people.

  1. Skechers

Following the drop of Adidas and Gap, Kanye came uninvited to the Skechers office, searching for a new house for his Yeezy shoe line. Unfortunately, he was instantly escorted out of the headquarters. What's even more ironic is that Skechers is owned and managed by a Jewish family. Kanye's antisemitic comments clearly are not a match for the company's values and history - too bad he didn't know better.

  1. CAA

CAA - or the Creative Arts Agency has been representing Kanye West since 2016. Today, after his affirmations, the agency does not represent the artist anymore. Moreover, the whole organization rejects all associations with Kanye. This is not yet official, but it was already confirmed by the press.

  1. MRC

After the success of Kanye’s documentary Jeen-Yuhs, MRC, a US network, commissioned a second film. This film has been completed but following Kanye's offensive statements, the administrators have discarded it and will no longer be proceeding forward with the project. They said that they can't support any form of content that strengthens Kanye's platform.

  1. JPMorgan Chase Bank

The JP Morgan Chase bank mailed a letter to the rapper Kanye West noting that they are finishing their banking association with YEEZY, LLC. According to the information so far, the bank has shut down Kanye's bank account.

  1. Cohen Clair Lans Greifer Thorpe & Rottenstreich LLP

Not only the brands and the bank but also the rapper's lawyers have backed out. As a result, the enterprise that represented Kanye during his divorce from Kim Kardashian last year has guaranteed that the firm will no longer be collaborating with the rapper.

  1. Madame Tussauds

Finally, the famous wax museum in London, Madame Tussauds, has removed the wax figure representing Kanye West. And that's not all, as there are other labels that are in the process of ending their partnership with the rapper or have done it already, such as TJ Max, Foot Locker, Peloton, The RealReal, and Def Jam.
