Former nanny of Jason Sudeikis and Olivia Wilde sues for wrongful termination amid mental health concerns

Former nanny of Jason Sudeikis and Olivia Wilde sues for wrongful termination amid mental health concerns

A former live-in nanny of actors Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court alleging that the couple wrongfully terminated her after she requested a three-day leave to cope with her depression and anxiety caused by their tumultuous separation.

According to the lawsuit, Erika Genaro, who had been working for the couple since 2018, claims that their separation in 2020 created an uncomfortable environment that compromised her mental health. Genaro further alleges that Sudeikis often talked about Wilde to her after Wilde left the family's home in November 2020, which made her feel pressured to take sides between the couple. In addition, Genaro's workload as a nanny reportedly increased significantly after Wilde's departure, which compelled her to talk to Wilde privately. This conversation was then relayed to Sudeikis. The lawsuit also claims that Sudeikis and Wilde agreed to group therapy with Genaro in January 2021 to address the "emotional toll" of their situation.

In October, The Daily Mail published an article containing alleged information about the breakup of Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis, citing an anonymous nanny as the source. The couple responded to the article with a joint statement, expressing their disappointment that their children's caregiver would make "false and defamatory accusations" about them. Wilde and Sudeikis were in a relationship for nine years but were never married, and have two children together.

Their ongoing custody battle has attracted media attention, with Wilde being served custody papers while speaking about her film "Don't Worry Darling" at the CinemaCon industry event in 2022.

According to a statement from his representative, Sudeikis claimed to have no information about the time or place where legal papers would be delivered to Wilde. The representative further added that he would never approve of such an inappropriate method of serving legal documents. Meanwhile, Wilde expressed her disappointment in an interview with Variety in August while promoting the release of her film, describing the incident as "really upsetting".

According to the complaint, Genaro alleged that Sudeikis had requested her to stay up late after putting the kids to bed to have conversations, which gradually shifted to discussing Wilde. The former nanny stated that these talks resulted in "extreme anxiety" for her as she felt forced to take sides between Sudeikis and Wilde.

Genaro's responsibilities in the children's lives purportedly "greatly increased," leading to an overwhelming pressure that she couldn't handle. She reportedly met with Wilde in Palm Springs to discuss her apprehensions, which made her feel relieved and supported, but later learned from Sudeikis that the actress had shared their conversation with him.

What’s more, Genaro claimed that her anxiety and stress only intensified after the news of the couple's separation became public. The complaint stated that Sudeikis and Wilde eventually attended therapy sessions with Genaro, acknowledging the "emotional impact" of the situation.
